What is a Sports Podiatrist?

A Sports podiatrist specialises in the diagnosis and management of foot and lower limb problems with a particular focus on injuries associated with foot and lower limb function.

The foot is one of the most complex structures of the human body and because of the foots unique interaction with the lower limb, a sports podiatrist can treat injuries affecting the feet, ankles, shins, knees, and assist with injuries affecting the hips and lower back.

Sports podiatrists have an in-depth knowledge of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics. They will assess whether there are any mechanical imbalances that may be contributing to your injury.

A sports podiatrist not only treats musculoskeletal injuries of the lower limb, but can also offer advice and treatment to minimise your risk of injury in the future. A sports podiatrist can also offer advice and modification of running shoes, football boots and other sporting footwear.
